Docia Belle Torbert passed away peacefully Dec. 4, 2015, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa.

Docia was born Dec. 11, 1915, in her grandmother’s home in Odebolt, Iowa. She was the daughter of James P. and Mary (Robinson) Blount.

Following graduation from Spencer High School in 1933, Docia worked as a bookkeeper for a car dealership, finance office and law office in Spencer.

On Aug. 18, 1935, she married Orville D. Torbert at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. Docia lovingly devoted her life to supporting her husband and raising her family of four active children.

In 1953 the family moved to Perry, where she resided for 45 years. Docia enjoyed gardening, swimming, bowling, playing bridge and traveling. She was dedicated to her faith and church, with special interest in supporting children and youth activities. She was a member of the hospital auxiliary and served as a volunteer.

Because of Docia’s tireless care, her husband was able to remain active and at home through twenty years of Parkinson’s disease. They enjoyed a loving marriage of 56 years.

Docia is survived by her daughters, Linda (Robert) Scheib of Loveland, Colo., and Janet (Ed) Beaman of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Ada, Bessie and Audrey; and sons, Dr. Joseph C. Torbert and Thomas O. Torbert.

The family would like to extend their deepest, heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center and the Gentiva Hospice in Panora for their years of loving care for Docia.

Services are being arranged by the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Online condolences may be submitted at www.carrisfuneralhome.com. Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Docia to Spurgeon Manor of Dallas Center, Gentiva Hospice in Panora, First Presbyterian Church of Perry or First Presbyterian Church of Dallas Center.
