Donald Lee “Donnie” Wigfield, 74, of Perry, Iowa, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, following an illness he was fighting the last three months.
Donnie was the son of Vernon and Merle Opal Neel Wigfield. He was born in Chaska, Minn., Aug. 29, 1942.
Donald and his family moved to Perry in 1948, and he attended the Perry Community Schools.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy for a brief time before returning home to work for the railroad. Donnie retired from the railroad in 1997 after 37 years of service.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Vern (1966) and Merle Wigfield (2008); brothers, Howard Clyde (2013) and Larry Neel (2014); sister-in-law, Anita Wigfield (2016); brother-in-law, Robert Lingner sr. (2009); niece, Cheryl Denise Lingner (1957); and nephews, Tony Wigfield (1993), Greg Wigfield (2003) and Robert Lingner jr. (2011).
Donnie is survived by his sister, JoAnn Lingner of Perry; brother, Vernon (Rita) Wigfield of Eden Prairie, Minn.; sister-in-law, Bonnie Wigfield of Norwood, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews, including Mary (Rick) Lingner-Car of Bouton, Andy (Julie) Wigfield of Hamburg, Minn., Becky Walton of Ames and Shaun (Tauna) Wigfield of Chaska, Minn.; great-niece, Brandi (Carlos) Valdez of Perry; and -nephew, Nick Lingner of Bondurant.
Hastings Funeral Home in Perry was in charge of arrangements. In accord with Donald’s wishes, no services were be held. Memorials can be sent to Mrs. JoAnn Lingner, 517 Clearview Drive, #8, Perry, IA 50220.
