Betsy Peterson of Betsy Peterson Designs in Perry designed the sign for the Studio on Second.

Back-to-back ribbon cuttings for the Spellman family of Perry brought a large crowd to Second Street Thursday morning as family, friends and Perry Chamber of Commerce members filled the street to help launch the latest two downtown Perry businesses.

The Perry Chamber of Commerce sponsored the band snipping first at the law offices of Dan Spellman and AnneMarie McDevitt at 1220 Second St. and then right next door at Sally Spellman’s Studio on Second event space and gallery at 1218 Second St.

The father-daughter team of attorneys Dan Spellman and AnneMarie McDevitt has more than 60 years of combined experience in the areas of workers compensation, personal injury, wills, trusts and probate, business law and real estate law. They have been practicing since February in offices shared with Robert L. Horak at 1220 Second St., once the home of the Poffenberger, Joy and Poffenberger law firm.

Dan Spellman told the gathered crowd the thorough remodeling of the law offices and the original design of the Studio on Second were accomplished using all local contractors, with special thanks given to Perry Paint and Glass owner Larry Moore and many others.

Sally Spellman said the Studio on Second is available for all events, with a comfortable capacity of about 50 people. A recent baby shower hosted 43 party goers with great success, she said. Work has been ongoing for a number of months at the former site of the Perry Perk coffeehouse, with Jim Walstrom’s display of vintage bikes at last February’s BRR Ride to Rippey the earliest use of the event space.

A delicious offering of fresh fruit-kebabs and cinnamon rolls refreshed the morning ribbon cutters.
