Members of the Perry Pride Softball Team sold frozen cookie dough in the entryway of the Perry Hy-Vee Saturday morning as part of their fundraising efforts for the 2015 season.
Nancy Callahan, a player’s mother and the team statistician, said the funds help cover the cost of tournament fees and travel and also provides some new equipment.
“The girls start practicing in February and play through October,” Callahan said. “They play 30 to 35 games a year, with spring and fall leagues in Ames.”
Twelve players compose the Perry Pride team, which plays only in tournaments. Perry Pride Coach Corey Eastman said last year’s fundraiser helped the team buy a $700 pitching machine that has greatly improved hitting.
The fast-pitch softballers play a six-game tournament next Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Des Moines. For more information, visit PerryPrideSoftball.com.
