A woman was transported to Dallas County Hospital with minor injuries early Sunday after her vehicle struck a deer in heavy fog on U.S. Highway 169 near Bouton.

The driver of the Ford Focus was southbound in the 13400 block of U.S. Highway 169, south of Beaver Creek, when her vehicle struck and killed the deer. The force of the collision tore back the hood of the passenger vehicle, which did not leave the roadway.

The Perry Police Department, Woodward First Responders, Woodward Fire Department, Dallas County EMS and Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded to the incident.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines has warned of “areas of fog across northern and central Iowa this morning, generally along the north of the Interstate 80 corridor. Within these areas, there are patches of dense fog, reducing visibility to below a quarter of a mile at times.”

According to the NWS, “Drivers should be alert for rapidly changing visibility, especially in river valleys and other low-lying areas.” The weather service said the fog should steadily dissipate after sunrise.
