Travis James Naimi, 32, of West Des Moines was arrested Saturday morning on charges of second-offense OWI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain control, interference with official acts and public intoxication.

A West Des Moines man was arrested early Saturday after crashing his vehicle into a pole and attempting to flee the scene on foot.

Travis James Naimi, 32, of 828 Sixth St., West Des Moines, was charged with second-offense OWI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain control, interference with official acts and public intoxication.

The collision occurred about 2:30 a.m. Saturday on S. 84th Street in West Des Moines, where Naimi allegedly “lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a light pole. He then fled the scene on foot,” according to court records.

Naimi was apprehended by an officer of the West Des Moines Police Department about a block from where he crashed his 2005 Toyota Camry.

He “displayed six of six signs of impairment” in sobriety testing and “had the odor of alcoholic beverages on his person, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech,” according to court records.

Naimi is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,862.50 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance Saturday in Dallas County District Court.

Naimi was convicted of first-offense OWI in 2010 in Polk County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

  1. “Fleeing”? If you call stumbling towards home fleeing, I guess Naimi did that. I have not seen him in years! You screwed up, James! Dave (big brother) is going to kick your butt! Never fear, folks! His friends are going to be rough with him. I’m making phone calls. Let the teasing begin!

  2. From a friend: Oh, James! we are not going to let you forget this! Ask Dave about Kelly B’s similar accident if you have forgotten about it. Years ago but the building is still on the corner. At least he hoofed it home a block away, James, and got away with it!
