A Guthrie Center woman allegedly became combative at the Dallas County Jail Friday night after she was arrested on a charge of drunk driving.
Cara Lynn Ciesielski, 35, of 706 N. Fifth St., Guthrie Center, was charged with first-offense OWI, assault on persons in certain occupations-bodily injury, interference with official acts, open container and unlawful possession of a prescription drug.
The incident began about 7 p.m. Friday on Iowa Highway 44 west of U.S. Highway 169, where a 2018 Toyota RAV4, driven by Ciesielski, passed a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff’s patrol vehicle “while there was a blue pickup truck in the oncoming lane” and “almost caused a head-on collision,” according to court records.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Ciesielski and perceived “the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from her breath” and saw “a small bottle of Fireball whiskey sitting in the cup holder of the center console,” according to court records.
Ciesielski also allegedly presented with “impaired balance and an impaired mental state,” according to court records, and her performance on field sobriety tests produced “indicators of impairment.”
Having been taken into custody and transported to the Dallas County Jail, Ciesielski “physically refused to get out of the vehicle and had to be removed,” according to court records. Once inside the booking room, she became restive and allegedly “intentionally kicked one of the jailers.”
Ciesielski was “placed into the emergency restraint chair” due to her “inability to control herself,” according to court records. Two different pills were found in an unmarked prescription pill bottle.
Ciesielski is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $4,803 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 1 in Dallas County District Court.
