An Adel man was arrested Sunday after allegedly kicking an officer of the Adel Police Department as well as the officer’s patrol car.

Jeffrey Beau Fortin, 25, of 45 River Vista Dr., Adel, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, assault on persons in certain occupations and public intoxication.

The incident began about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, when an officer of the Adel Police Department observed someone “riding his bicycle all over the road at the 29000 block of Old Portland Road” in Adel, according to court records.

Investigation led to the identification of the bicyclist as Fortin, and he was arrested and taken into custody on a charge of public intoxication.

While Fortin was “handcuffed in the back seat” of a parked Adel Police Department patrol vehicle, he allegedly “started to repeatedly kick the rear passenger door” of the patrol vehicle, “causing damage to the door frame and window,” according to court records.

An officer “opened the back passenger door” of the patrol car, and Fortin allegedly “kicked” the officer “in the chest with both feet.”

Fortin is held in Dallas County Jail on a $2,300 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 19 in Dallas County District Court.
