A Des Moines man was arrested Friday night in Dexter after allegedly punching his girlfriend and stomping on her foot.
Gino Vincent Candiano, 46, of 1433 E. 16th St., Des Moines, was charged with second-offense domestic abuse assault.
The incident began about 9:45 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of State Street in Dexter, where Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs responded to a report of “an intoxicated male on the property who was not welcome there,” according to court records.
Deputies arrived and made contact with Candiano, who “admitted he was intoxicated” after drinking “one fifth of Fireball whiskey,” according to court records.
Deputies made contact with the victim, who said she was trying to persuade Candiano to leave the back porch and enter the residence when Candiano allegedly “proceeded to stomp on” the victim’s “left foot, causing redness and pain to her foot,” according to court records.
The victim said “she was able to get” Candiano into an “upstairs bedroom,” where he allegedly “became upset, held her down on the bed and punched her in the face,” according to court records.
Candiano denied hitting the victim but admitted that “he did push her” and “may have stomped on” the victim’s foot.
Candiano is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Dec. 15 in Dallas County District Court.
Candiano was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault in 2005 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of assault and third-degree harassment in 2012 in Polk County District Court.
