WOODWARD — Pella Christian swiftly answered an opening score from Woodward-Granger to race to a 24-6 lead en route to a 45-22 victory in Class 1A District 7 play Friday.

W-G (4-4, 1-3) struck for the only points of the first quarter when Tate Lettow ran through a hole, dodged a linebacker, and burst down the middle of the field for an 85-yard touchdown. The conversion failed, but the Hawks had a 6-0 lead.

The advantage did not last long. Strong play along the offensive line helped the Eagles rush for five TDs and 258 yards while providing time for quarterback Dan Jungling to finish 12-of-20 for 241 yards and one score through the air.

Pella Christian (6-2, 4-0) scored three times on the ground and received a 31-yard Nathan DeBruin field goal to seize a 24-6 lead at the half.

W-G trailed 38-22 when a final score from the hosts in the fourth quarter sealed the score. The other Hawk scores came on a 12-yard run from Gabe Yingst and a four-yard plunge from Keith Braunschweig, with Lettow and Reese Jamison adding two-point conversion runs.

Jamison was 4-of-10 for 83 yards passing, with Braunschweig 1-of-7 for five yards while being intercepted once. Bryce Achenbach (4-63) and Pacey Moats (1-25) caught the five Hawk completions.

Lettow had 185 yards on 21 carries, with Yingst (9-51) and Braunschweig (3-18) providing the rushing scores. Jamison (9-40) and Achenbach (1-2) also had carries for the hosts.

Yingst made eight tackles, Lettow seven and Achenbach and Braunschweig 6.5 apiece. Jamison recovered an Eagle fumble, with Joe Rhodes and Wyatt Rosenbaum each recording a sack.

W-G will conclude their season at Colfax-Mingo (5-3, 2-2) Friday. The Tigerhawks topped Woodward Academy, 68-50, in a wild aerial duel in Week 8. C-M quarterback Brady Berkey burned the Knights for 516 passing yards and seven TDs while completing 29-of-46 passes. Trinity Schroeder (12-244, 4 TDs) and Zarek Hill (8-157, 2 TDs) led the receivers, whiel Damir Gumerov ran 17 times for 151 yards and two TDs.
