PANORA — An 18-8 edge on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter helped visiting Earlham elude Panorama in boys WCAC action Tuesday.

Earlham (7-6, 7-5) led, 39-31, entering the final frame and was in front, 41-35, with five minutes to play. From there the Cardinals went on a 9-0 run over the next four minutes to open a 50-35 gulf with 60 seconds still on the clock and easily won from there.

Panorama (3-11, 2-10) had stayed within range until the fateful run by the visitors. The Panthers faced deficits of 14-18 after one frame and of 27-24 at the half, then remained within striking distance until the final few minutes.

Foul shooting played a big role in the outcome. Panorama sank 16-of-22 at the stripe overall and were 4-of-7 on second-half free throws, but Earlham cashed in on 16-of-24 at the line after the break and finished 19-of-31 in the contest.

Dawson Madren led the Cardinals with 18 points, sinking 11-of-16 at the line in the second half. Jason Hopp added 13 pounds and Parker Klieal seven.

Gracen Welberg’s 10 points paced Panorama, with Zac Rizzuti adding nine points and Kolby Shackelford seven. Malachi Peasley had six points, Luke South four, and Michael Allen three to conclude the scoring list.

Panorama hosts AC/GC Friday, with the Panther boys at Shenandoah Saturday at 3 p.m.
