Earlham boys use strong second half to turn back Woodward-Granger

EARLHAM — A nine-point edge in third quarter scoring was followed by a 10-point bulge in the fourth frame as Earlham streaked away from Woodward-Granger for a 75-46 win in WCC boys basketball action Tuesday.

The Cardinals led, 20-17, after eight minutes of play before using a 20-13 spurt in the second quarter to seize a 40-30 halftime lead. Earlham (6-2, 6-2) took control of the game with a 16-7 scoring edge in the third quarter that created a 56-37 advantage before a 19-9 bulge over the final stanza set the final score.

W-G (1-7, 1-7) was led by 13 points from Nick Squires, with Cameron Hoyt adding 10 points off the bench. Bodie Harrison had eight points and Marcus McConahay six, with five points from Derick Morgan and four from Brady Aunspach completing the scoring ledger.

Squires pulled down nine rebounds, Morgan seven and Aunspach five, with Squires making three assists and Aunspach and Harrison two apiece. Aunspach and McConahay each had steals for the Hawks.

W-G hosts Guthrie Center tonight and West Central Valley Tuesday before entertaining Des Moines Christian Jan. 15.
