Eighth-ranked Fillies race past visiting Jayettes

DALLAS CENTER — An old nemesis ended another softball season for Perry Saturday, as eighth-ranked DC-G (18-9) posted an 11-1 win over the Jayettes (3-16) in their Class 4A Region 2 Semifinal.

The win will allow the Fillies to host Ballard (10-7), who eliminated Webster City (7-7), 13-0, in their semifinal Saturday. The Region 2 Final will be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Aubrey Johnson had a home run, a double and three RBIs for the hosts, with Molly Cooney added a home run and two RBIs. DC-G scored twice in the second and twice in the third before pushing five runs across the dish in the fourth for a 9-0 lead.

Perry scored their lone run in the top of the fifth. Peyton Tunink walked, with Taylor Atwell reaching on a fielder’s choice. Lydia Olejniczak singled with two outs, with Jayna Kenney driving in Atwell.

Kenney went four innings in the ring, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 11 hits. She issued one walk and struck out two.

She was replaced by Maci Tunink in the fifth. She surrendered two runs (one earned) on three hits as the game ended early.

Lani Gannon was touched for a run on four hits and two walks in five stanzas of work. She finished with four strikeouts.

Olejniczak, Kenney, Macy Killmer and Molly Lutmer all had singles for Perry, with Kenney and Peyton Tunink each walking once. Atwell scored, with Kenney accounting for the RBI.

Cassidy Heck played her final game for Perry, as did Lutmer, Carly Herrera and Hannah Peterson, all of who were out for the sport for the first time in the their varsity careers. The Jayettes will remain a young squad again next season, as Jasmine Shriver and Kennedy Tunink were the only juniors on the team this summer.
