More than 300 students, staffers and community members met Monday afternoon at the DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy to test the tastes from Perry’s best taco vendors in the inaugural Tacopalooza 2019.
Three local competitors — El Tren, Taqueria Villa and El Sabor Mexicano — brought tempting tacos to the table. All have gained a reputation for serving some of the area’s best tacos, and each has its loyal fan base.
Nearly 150 ballots were cast, and they tabulated by DMACC’s Blanca Cortes and the Perry Chmber of Commerce Executive Director Lynsi Pasutti.
“Congratulations to EL Tren, the winner of the 2019 Golden Taco Award for Perry’s best steak taco!” said Eddie Diaz, director of the Perry DMACC. “Please visit each of these vendors to have your own tasting, and thank them for participating.”
The handmade Golden Taco Award was fabricated by DMACC Perry welding instructor Jim VonBehren.
“Keep an eye out for Tacopalooza 2020 coming in May,” Diaz said.
