The first four houses in the Magnolia Park planned unit development (PUD) on 28th Street north of Willis Avenue are taking shape after several months of delayed materials.

Homes in the 34-unit PUD, approved by the Perry City Council in November 2020, are being built by Ankeny-based Oakstone Homes of Iowa LLC. Each of the single-family homes is built on a slab and extends to roughly 1,300 square feet.

Framing is also proceeding on the third spec house under construction by the Perry High School building trades program. The single-family house at the corner of 12th Street and Otley Avenue stands on the site of the former Perry High School, later the Junior High School.

The Perry City Council made a gift of the lot to the Perry Community School District in July. The city still owns the four westernmost lots in the Bluejay Addition, which forms “part of Block Eight (8) in the Foster and Heaton Addition to the Original Town, now City of Perry Iowa,” according to the property’s legal description.
