The threat of rain has moved Saturday’s Relay for Life of Dallas County into the PHS gym, but that has not dampened the gratitude of Team Bookworm toward the generous customers of the Perry Fareway store, who stepped up again this year and donated $824.36 during the weeklong roundup for the Relay for Life of Dallas County.
Fareway Manager Travis Landgrebe presented the donation check Friday morning to the Perry Public Library’s Team Bookworm Captain Kathy Miller and Team Bookworm members Cat Stokes, Marcia McCaulley and Connie Iles.
Landgrebe said the donations came from more than 800 transactions between Sept. 9-14. Fareway also donated buns for the Saturday luncheon, with Tyson Fresh Meats donating the fresh meats and Bett and Bev’s donating the cooking.
Wheelchairs — instead of the outdoor gators — will be available in the gym courtesy of Dallas County Hospital.
“We are thankful to the Perry Fareway and its generous customers for supporting the Relay for Life of Dallas County,” Miller said. She said this is the third year Fareway customers have supported Team Bookworm.
This year’s Relay for Life of Dallas County will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 in the Perry High School gymnasium. Event registration begins at 3 p.m., with activities lasting from 4 p.m. until about 10 p.m.
The 2019 Relay For Life Honorary Survivor Kay Finneseth of Perry will speak about her journey through cancer to health.
