WAUKEE, Iowa — Farnsworth Group Inc., a full-service architecture and engineering firm with 500 employees in 10 states, recently announced its acquisition of Waukee-based Design Alliance, a 14-person architecture firm founded in 1991 by Jerry Purdy of Adel.

Design Alliance extends Farnsworth Group’s national network to 23 offices nationwide and its first location in Iowa.

“Design Alliance has earned a valued reputation for delivering quality architecture services and has a team of talented professionals that we are fortunate to have joining Farnsworth Group,” said Farnsworth Group President and CEO Karen Jensen. “We are looking forward to introducing Design Alliance’s clients to Farnsworth Group’s full-service capabilities in architecture, engineering and survey as well as the new opportunities that lie ahead in the state of Iowa.”

Purdy grew Design Alliance ito a recognized leader in planning and architecture design throughout central Iowa and the Midwest, with the firm’s primary markets including public agencies, assisted living, healthcare, office, education and commercial/retail.

Purdy said, “We are eager to promote the full-service capabilities and resources we now have available to offer our clients,” said Purdy, who served as the Design Alliance president and is now a principal at Farnsworth Group. “I am also excited for our Design Alliance employees, who are now part of a national company that can provide them the opportunities and resources of a larger firm.”

This is Farnsworth Group’s fifth acquisition in the last eight years, having completed the acquisition of EWR Architects in Fairview Heights, Ill, one year ago. The employee-owned company serve a wide variety of clients and markets, from small and local governments to some of the most recognizable brands in the world.
