GRIMES — Dallas Center-Grimes grabbed control early and never relaxed in cruising to a 55-26 win over Perry in non-conference girls basketball Tuesday.
DC-G (3-1) was missing starters Selena Nolte and Maci Masching but had little trouble breaking down the Perry defense in racing to an 18-8 lead after one quarter, a margin what swelled to 30-12 at the intermission.
Perry (1-4) struggled to bring the ball up the court against a trapping defense and had trouble finding open shots or passing the ball into the post as well.
After 24 minutes of play the Fillies held a 55-26 lead, with the two teams scoring only a combined 11 points behind uneven play in the final quarter.
Brooke Kramer and Jenna Borchers had 13 points apiece for DC-G, with Mallory Vroegh adding 10 points. Six points from Rachel Lowary, five from Hannah Wuebker, four from Makenna Junge and two each from Tatum Jorgensen and Maddie Carpenter capped the scoring list.
Grace Marburger sank three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points to lead Perry, with Taylor Lathrum adding 10 points as well. Mariah Duffy and Alyssa Kruger each sank a basket for the guests, with two free throws from Emma Olejniczak accounting for the remaining points.
Perry will face a tough challenge Friday with a trip to Ballard, with Norwalk visiting Perry Tuesday and Carroll Dec. 19. A girls-only home game with Des Moines Hoover Dec. 21 will cap the pre-Christmas portion of the season.
