Perry Rotary Club President Kevin Vidergar presented Perry Fire Chief Grason Hill with the 2024 Civil Servant of the Year Award at Monday night’s meeting of the Perry City Council.
Chief Hill has served Perry as a volunteer fireman for more than 32 years and recently completed his first year as the chief of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.
“Chief Hill’s dedication to the safety and well being of our community is truly unmatched,” Vidergar said. “He is respected by his fellow firefighters, admired by the broader community and recognized as a role model for his selfless service and unwavering dedication. He will always go the extra mile to help the people of Perry.”
The Perry Rotary Club board considered nominees for this year’s Civil Servant of the Year, and Hill received 20 nominations, a testament to the dedication he inspires in the department.
Vidergar said many people praised Hill for the countless hours he has given to fighting fires, organizing and improving the department and leading fundraising efforts for the department. All admire his ability to stay calm and focused when dealing with difficult and sometimes life-threatening situations.
“He truly exemplifies the Rotary motto, ‘Service above Self,'” Vidergar said.
For many years, the Perry Rotary Club has honored a deserving individual as the Civil Servant of the Year. Individuals who work or volunteer in the following areas are eligible for the award: law enforcement, fire department, ambulance service, emergency services, health care, human services and other closely related areas.
