No one was injured Sunday night when a barn was destroyed by fire between Perry and Minburn.

The fire at 16435 N Ave. was reported about 10:30 p.m.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this hour. A line of fire was visible running from the east side of N Avenue to the barn on the west side of the state highway.

Volunteer fire departments from Perry and Minburn responded, with mutual aid supplied by the fire departments of Woodward and Bouton. The Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Dallas County EMS also responded.

Working in single-digit temperatures, the firefighters were unable to refill their tankers at 180th Street and N Avenue because the hydrant was faulty, according to public safety radio traffic.

The Xenia-fed water tower in Minburn was also inadequate for the purpose, so fresh supplies of water were fetched from Bouton at a distance of about five miles.

The barn was a complete loss, according to a statement issued Monday morning by the Minburn Volunteer Fire Department. “An unknown number of swine that occupied a portion of the barn are unaccounted for at this time,” the statement said.

The property is owned by Larry D. Taylor, according to county records.
