Fire was reported about 5 a.m. Sunday in a unit of the Janssering Park apartment houses at 700 18th St. in Perry.

There were no injuries in the blaze.

Officers of the Perry Police Department responded and evacuated the occupants of theĀ  westernmost building prior to the arrival of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.

Extensive smoke was pouring from the southwest unit of the upper story, and flame could be seen from the street.

As onlookers from the neighborhood gathered at the corner of 18th and Iowa streets, firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and set up exhaust fans to clear the structure of smoke.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this hour.

The twin eight-unit Janssering Park apartment houses, owned by Quoc Tran of Cedar Falls, were built in 1974.
