Sunday night’s high winds rekindled a smoldering fire on Perry’s north side, bringing the Perry Volunteer Fire Department to the scene to extinguish the blaze.
The fire was reported about 7:45 p.m. in a burn pile at 12813 K Dr., on property owned by local landscaper Kevin Wicks, according to county records.
The brush pile appeared to be burning in violation of the city’s open-burning ordinance. The season for the legal burning of yard waste within the city limits ended Nov. 21.
The fire department extinguished a fire at the same location in April.
A wind advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Monday for the Perry area, with 40-mph gusts forecast.
The Perry Police Department also responded.
