MAC Construction in Perry, owned by Mark Collins, installed the new steeple on the roof of the First Baptists Church in Perry Wednesday morning while local worshippers looked on.

A year after lightening struck down the steeple on the First Baptist Church in Perry, a new fiberglass replacement was erected today. The church was founded in 1869 and is Perry’s oldest house of worship.

First Baptist Church Pastor Chris Tjapkes said insurance covered the repairs to the church roof and replacement of the steeple. Mark Collins of Perry’s MAC Construction was the lead contractor on the $8,000 job, Tjapkes said.

Modlin Construction of Perry also assisted in the project.

“It’s a glorious day,” Tjapkes said.
