The First Baptist Church in Perry turned 153-year-old last month, but we are more excited than ever to let you know what God is doing at our church in 2022. We have already held several events this year and are looking forward to more.

At the beginning of 2022, FBC hosted Tim Little as a guest speaker and Sunday school teacher for the morning services.

The following Saturday, we hosted our first monthly men’s prayer breakfast, with 15 men of various ages attending. February’s meeting saw 16 men. Our next men’s prayer breakfast will be held on March 12 from 9-10 a.m. Men young and old alike are invited to attend. We look forward to seeing you there.

Seven students from our FBC Youth Group recently attended an evangelistic youth rally called Monopoly Madness at the Nevada Baptist Church. Many if not all the students won a prize, and all of them seemed to enjoy that event. If you have children in seventh through 12th grades, bring them to Wednesday night youth group at the First Baptist Church to get them involved. Our youth leaders, Brian and Melissa Netherton will be excited to see them.

We are also in the midst of restructuring our Wednesday night children’s ministry to suit families. Our ministry is a great place to learn the Bible and to get yourself and your children involved. It currently begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings and will go until the end of the current school year.

Keep in mind that summer will be here sooner than you think. Vacation Bible School will run July 17–23. It will be a time to learn the story of Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for us. We will also offer an adult Vacation Bible School for those parents interested in learning the Bible for themselves. Keep July 17–23 on your calendar and enjoy a time of learning and loving Jesus with your families.

The most important date to keep in your calendar right now is April 17. That is Easter Sunday. We will be holding a Sunrise service followed by a brief time of food and fellowship. Then we will hold an extended Easter service with a canceled evening service so that you can spend resurrection Sunday with family, remembering what Christ did for us on the cross.

  1. Congratulations on your impressive anniversary! And it looks like you are on the fast track to spread the Gospel to all ages! I have many fond memories of friends and activities there back in the ’60s. I was not a church member there — wasn’t even born again until ’73! — but was included (and seeds planted!) at FBC. God bless you all!

    • Thank you for your comment. Good to know that seeds are planted and bear fruit. So encouraging to all who share the Good News. Is Hastie your married name? Am trying to place you. I was in the class of 1960, so you might be younger.
      Blessings to you. –Nancy Collins

      • I’m the mother of Mike and Deb Hastie. Aren’t you Julie’s mom? My maiden name was Ervin, and I’m Bud and Iva’s youngest of four. My eldest sister Patty (class of ’57), sister Joanne (class of ’60), and brother Tom (class of ’63). Joy Salocker (Patti’s little sister) is the one who led me to Christ in 1973, when we both lived in Ankeny.

        • Your sister Patty was in my sister’s class. Joanne was in my class though I did not graduate with that class. When we were first married, we lived on 2nd St across from your parents’ home. Yes, I am Julie’s mom and do remember Mike Hattie from Julie’s class. Julie is visiting us in her home in Florida. She and her husband are stationed in Hawaii for a few more months but will be living in Florida. Julie is retiring from the Navy June 1st.
