DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) was notified Saturday of five deaths from COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 175, and an additional 757 positive cases for a total of 8,641 positive cases, including 515 cases in Dallas County.
The additional five deaths were reported in the following counties:
Linn County, 2 older adults (81-60 years)
Polk County, 1 older adults (61-80)
Tama County, 1 older adults (61-80)
Woodbury County, 1 older adults (61-80)

About 50% of all deaths in Iowa are associated with outbreaks in long-term care facilities. This statistic underscores that COVID-19 poses the most risk for older adults above the age of 60 with chronic health conditions, resulting in more severe illness and death.
