A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday for the Perry area.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. Sunday for the Perry area, including the cities of Adel, Booneville, Bouton, Dallas Center, Dawson, De Soto, Dexter, Granger, Linden, Minburn, Redfield, Van Meter, Waukee and Woodward.

Widespread snow is spreading across central Iowa Saturday night and is expected to persist into early Sunday afternoon.

Snow amounts are forecast to range from 3 to 5 inches, with locally highe amounts possible, especially in the northeast.

Winds will be from the southeast at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts to 30 mph. Visibility will drop to as low as one-half mile at times due to blowing snow.

The combination of snow and wind will produce slick, snow-covered roads, limited visibility and hazardous travel conditions. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving.
