Five additional positive cases of COVID-19 have cropped up in recent days in the Adel-De Soto-Minburn Community School District, according to communications from ADM Superintendent Greg Dufoe.

Wednesday, Aug. 26 saw reports of one positive case at the ADM High School and one case at the DeSoto Intermediate School. Neither student had attended school on-site, so no other students or staff were identified as close contacts, Dufoe said in a message to the district.

Dufoe reported Thursday, Aug. 27 the identification of two more ADM High School positive cases and one case at the ADM Middle School. Contact tracing by the Dallas County Public Health Department identified 11 people as “close contacts” of the middle school student, and they have been placed in a two-week quarantine.

Dufoe sent the following message to district families Thursday:

ADM CSD was notified today, Aug. 27, 2020, that two ADM High School students tested positive for COVID-19. Neither student has attended school on-site this school year. Therefore, in consultation with the Dallas County Health Department, it has been determined that no other students or staff will be identified as a close contact (within six feet for more than 15 minutes) due to an exposure while on-site at ADM.

Additionally, ADM was notified that an ADM Middle School tested positive for COVID-19. In consultation with the Dallas County Health Department, contact tracing has occurred to identify individuals that were within six feet of the positive individual for more than 15 minutes. As a result, the Dallas County Health Department has identified 11 individuals that will be identified as close contacts. Individuals identified as close contacts will be contacted by the state or local health agency and will be placed in a 14-day quarantine.

Please Note: ADM will not make health recommendations related to quarantine, as any such determination will be made through official contact tracing and communication by the local or state health departments. However, when ADM is notified by a local or state health department that an individual(s) will be identified as a close contact, that individual(s) will not be allowed to attend school or participate in school functions until they are released by the local health agency. Individuals identified in this case have been contacted. Under no circumstance will ADM communicate the name of a student or staff member that has tested positive.

The ADM Community School District had about 1,900 students enrolled in 2019, with about 500 in the high school. The district’s Return to Learn Plan calls for 100% attendance and features many virus-mitigation tactics, such as context-appropriate face coverings for students in grades three through 12.
