Five more goals for Martinez as Jayettes crush Toreadors

BOONE — Perry freshman Natalie Martinez jacked her goals-scored total to 17 in seven games this season after putting five balls into the net against winless Boone in Raccoon River Conference action Thursday.

Perry improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in RRC play with the win while Boone fell to 0-7, 0-4. Martinez scored four times in the first half and Mariah McNamara added a goal as the Jayettes surged to a 5-0 lead.

Martinez scored for the first time six minutes into the contest, then added her second goal three minutes later. McNamara found the nylon in the 20th minute, with Martinez goals in the 23rd and 33rd minutes opening the 5-0 margin.

The frosh sensation beat the keeper a fifth time one minute into the second half, with a Victoria Hegstrom strike in the 29th minute capping the scoring.

Amparo Menendez had three saves in goal while between the pipes in the first half, with Carly Anderson minding the net in the second half, during which she made one save.

The Jayette JV was a 4-0 winner, with Hegstrom (two saves) in goal in the first half and Karen Romero keeping watch after the break.

Bailey Cmelik put on the board in the 19th minute, with Michelle Ruedas pushing the score to 2-0 in the 26th minute. Fatima Calderon scored in the 26th minute of the second half, with Jessica Ortiz finding the back of the goal in the 33rd minute to end the scoring.

Perry will visit Des Moines Christian for a varsity-only contest at 5:30 p.m. Monday before hosting Gilbert Tuesday and Newton April 29.
