Five Perry High School musicians were chosen to play in this year’s Drake University Honor Band Dec. 1-2, the PHS Instrumental Music Department announced Tuesday.
The talented young musicians chosen for this year’s honor were Miguel Constanza, Vivian Gonzalez, Breanna Penenger, Fatima Rodriguez and Sarah Vaughn.
The Perry High School Instrumental Music Department is under the direction of Brad Sparks.
During the two-day festival, students and directors developed their skills through rehearsals and clinics with guest conductors and members of the Drake music faculty. The culminating events were two evening concerts, featuring the Drake Bands and the Honor Bands playing a wide variety of wind band music.
The Honors Concert Band and Honors Wind Ensemble are composed of more than 200 students from Iowa and Nebraska, representing the finest high school musicians in these states.
