Flood warning in effect for Dallas, Greene, Guthrie counties

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a flood warning for the North Raccoon River and South Raccoon River in Dallas, Greene and Guthrie counties for the next 48 hours.

At 2 p.m. Wednesday, the stage was 14.0 feet or 3.0 feet below flood stage. Flood stage is 17.0 feet. The Raccoon River at Van Meter is forecast to reach flood stage late Thursday afternoon, rising to 19.4 feet or 2.4 feet above flood stage by Saturday evening and then begin falling to below flood stage by Tuesday afternoon.

Along with Dallas County, the flood warning is in effect for the following counties in Iowa: Black Hawk, Davis, Greene, Madison, Polk, Story, Wapello and Warren.

Along with the North and South Raccoon Rivers, the flood warning applies to the following rivers in Iowa: Black Hawk Creek, South Skunk River and Des Moines River.

River forecasts include observed precipitation as well as expected precipitation over the next 48 hours.
