Flood warning issued to Friday for Raccoon between Perry, Adel

At 16.5 feet, flooding on the North Raccoon River is expected to impact the Dawson area north of 125th Trail and west of County Road P46. Water might also affect portions of U.S. Highway 169 north of Adel near the Dallas County Fairgrounds.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines has issued a flood warning for the North Raccoon River between Perry and Adel.

The flood warning will remain in effect until Friday afternoon for the area along the river from the Greene County-Dallas County line southward to Adel.

The flood stage for the North Racoon River is 15 feet. At 7:15 p.m. Monday, the river was at 10.8 feet or 4.2 feet below flood stage, according to the NWS.

At present, no flooding is occurring and only minor flooding is forecast.

The river is expected to rise to flood stage early Wednesday morning and continue rising to 16.5 feet or 1.5 feet above flood stage by Thursday afternoon. The river will then slowly recede to below flood stage Friday afternoon.
