The supercharged Raccoon River has risen nearly to the bridge on U.S. Highway 169 on the north side of Adel and has flooded the roadway south of the bridge. A detour has been established by the Iowa DOT.

Recent heavy rains have forced the closure of U.S. Highway 169 to through traffic south of Iowa Highway 44 and north of U.S. Highway 6 as the Raccoon River reaches flood stage.

The flood warning issued Monday by the National Weather Service (NWS) continues until early Monday for the area along the river from the Greene County-Dallas County line southward to Adel.

The detour route has people going east on Highway 6 to CR R22 on the outskirts of Waukee, then heading north to Highway 44 and back west to 169.

The flood stage for the Raccon River is 15 feet. The river is expected to crest Friday afternoon at 18 feet or 3 feet above flood stage.

The Iowa Department of Transportation has established a detour around the flooded roadway.
