Mary Krisco, standing, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach human sciences specialist in nutrition, will lead the three-workshop series in healthy home cooking.

Whether you are a food-canning veteran or a newcomer, Food Preservation 101 will give you a solid foundation for brushing up on or learning new skills.

The workshop will meet Sunday, May 31 from 1:30-3 p.m. at Forest Park Museum near Perry. Taught by Mary Krisco, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach human sciences specialist in nutrition, the family-friendly workshop will touch on the art of drying, freezing, pickling, hot-water bath and pressure canning.

Attendees will learn about the equipment, time and money needed successfully to preserve food items and also about avoiding common mistakes. Because this class is instructional and not participatory, attendees will be able to take home recipes as well as detailed how-to information.
