A GoFundMe campaign has been established for Frank Howell, formerly of Perry, who underwent surgery Tuesday to remove a brain tumor.

The 1988 graduate of Perry High School lives in Lamoni with his wife, Sarah Howell, and their two young daughters. He formerly coached basketball at Audubon High School, Cedar Rapids Washington High School and Graceland University.

Frank was life flighted Sunday night to MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

“Frank is still recovering from surgery in the ICU and is really tired today,” Sarah said in a Wednesday update on Facebook. “No word on the pathology report that discusses his tumor yet. I continue to be deeply heartened by the number of people who have reached out and have asked what they can do to help.”

Family friend Brenda Carter established the GoFundMe page to help the family with medical expenses.

“I wish I had more answers now,” Sarah said Tuesday, “but one thing I do know is that we have the best group of friends and family we could ever ask for. Family stepped in to care for the girls, bring us things from home and feed us. Friends jumped in to care for our animals, and loved ones from all over the state and beyond have checked in on us and offered prayers. Our school communities of Lamoni and Central Decatur have been so supportive. I am overwhelmed and moved to tears whenever I think about all of this. We love all of you and will update you on Frank’s progress as we can.”
