Forecasts call for an inch or two of snow and single-digit temperatures for Saturday’s 44th annual BRR Bike Ride to Rippey, which differs in format this year due to COVID-19 precautions.
Snow is forecast to impact the central and southern portions of Iowa Saturday morning into Saturday afternoon, with 10-15 mph winds possibly reducing visibility and snow possibly covering parts of the 24-mile round-trip route.
About 500 riders preregistered for this year’s BRR, according to Perry Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lynsi Pasutti. The annual fundraiser supports Chamber staffing and operations, she said.
Unlike the usual festive pre-ride atmosphere that fills downtown Perry, this year’s BRR will see no vendors plying their wares and no Perry Lions serving their hotcakes and egg. There will be no group start at 10 a.m., and no planned events will follow the ride.
Pasutti said this year’s hybrid model for BRR lets riders choose when and where to ride. In spite of the COVID-19 precautions, the tradition dating to 1977 continues.
This will be the most brutally cold BRR weekend for several years. I wish them all a safe ride. Please, do not allow for anyone to be by themselves.
