Four Bluejays earn All-RRC recognition

The Perry boys basketball team had four players recently selected for All-Raccoon River Conference honors.

Perry's Shammond Ivory hammered this dunk just before the first quarter horn sounded in Tuesday's Class 3A Quarterfinal against Pella. Ivory had 18 points in the game and leaves as Perry's all-time leading scorer with 1,708 points.

Senior Shammond Ivory was an unanimous pick for the First Team, with junior Kyle Nevitt also chosen for the First Team.

No Jays were chosen for the Second Team, but senior Ryan Rathje and junior Janier Puente were selected for Honorable Mention status.

In statistics from RRC play only, Ivory led the league in both total points (308) and points per game (23.7). He had 46 assists, grabbed 42 rebounds and made 20 steals.

Nevitt had 211 points for a 15.1 ppg clip, both eighth in the RRC. He cleared 72 boards, had 30 assists and made 17 steals.

Rathje led the RRC in blocked shots with 20 and was fourth in total 3-pointers with 31. He scored 156 points (11.1 ppg) and distributed 29 assists while pulling down 78 rebounds.

Puente was third in both total rebounds (116) and rebounds per game (18.3) but was far and away the dominant offensive rebound machine in the RRC after collecting 59, more than 20 more than the second-place player on the list. He scored 151 points (10.8 ppg) and had 20 thefts.

Perry was 15-10 overall and 8-6 in RRC play. They were the lone conference team to qualify for the state tournament.
