DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) was notified Tuesday of four deaths from COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 83, and an additional 482 positive cases for a total of 3,641 positive cases, including 55 positive cases in Dallas County.
According to IDPH, the four deaths was reported in the following county:
Linn County, 1 elderly adult (81+ years)
Polk County, 1 older aged adult (61-80 years), 2 elderly adults (81+ years)
According to the IDPH, 157 of today’s 482 new positive cases are part of surveillance testing for meat processing facilities. Of the new positive cases, 100 were Tyson employees and 57 were National Beef employees.

About 50% of all deaths in Iowa are associated with outbreaks in long-term care facilities. This statistic underscores that COVID-19 poses the most risk for older adults above the age of 60 with chronic health conditions, resulting in more severe illness and death.
