Four friends arrested for smoking ‘blunt’ in hotel parking lot

Dakota Quintz Diggs, 24, of Gibson, Louisiana, upper left, Alanna Danae Tibbits, 23, of Greenwood, Arkansas, upper right, Dwight Jefferson Burns, 22, of West Des Moines, lower right, and Lorrainna Marie Secory, 20, of Des Moines were arrested Thursday night for smoking pot in a car outside a Jordan Creek hotel.

A West Des Moines man and three women — from Des Moines, Arkansas and Louisiana — were arrested Thursday night when officers of the West Des Moines Police Department found them smoking a “blunt” in a vehicle parked outside a hotel in the Jordan Creek area of West Des Moines.

Dwight Jefferson Burns, 22, of 1218 Office Park Road, #1, West Des Moines, was charged with second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana.

Dakota Quintz Diggs, 24, of 5134 N. Bayou Black Dr., Gibson, Louisiana, was charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, first-offense possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lorrainna Marie Secory, 20, of 1822 E. 14th St., Des Moines, was charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana.

Alanna Danae Tibbits, 23, of 4100 E. Highway 10, Greenwood, Arkansas, was charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana.

The incident began about 8 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of S. 64th Street in the Jordan Creek area of West Des Moines, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department were conducting an area check of the Hyatt Hotel parking lot.

The officers detected the odor of marijuana and traced with odor to a 2013 Nissan Altima occupied by Burns, Diggs, Secory and Tibbits. According to court records, Tibbits was holding the “blunt” when officers intervened, and Burns had a plastic container holding marijuana.

Diggs also possessed three pills that field tested positive for MDMA.

Burns is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for arraignment July 30 in Dallas County District Court.

Diggs is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,300 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for arraignment Jul 30 in Dallas County District Court.

Secory is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for arraignment July 30 in Dallas County District Court.

Tibbits is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 8 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
