BONDURANT — The win did not come easily, but the Perry boys were happy to notch the victory Tuesday after escaping Bondurant-Farrar with a 3-2 win in Raccoon River Conference soccer action.

“All-in-all we played very well against a fairly decent B-F soccer team,” Perry head coach Gary Overla said. “We certainly didn’t think of this win positively because of some egregious errors that we made on clearances.”

“We felt as though we had lost, which I guess is a sign that we have higher expectations of ourselves, which is good,” he added. “However, we need to address these problems in practice so that we don’t have to deal with these situations in games.”

Perry (4-0, 3-0) struck quickly, taking a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when Mario Saldana fed a pass to Rudy Sarceno, who ripped a blast into the upper left of the netting.

Overla’s concern for successfully clearing their own zone came from lax play in the 24th minute, resulting in a game-tying score.

Ever Tobar struck twice in a two-minute span for the visiting Bluejays in the second half. His header — off a perfectly-placed feed from Wilbur Ramirez — gave the guests a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute, with Tobar taking a Johnathon Castro pass and scoring into a wide open goal on a break-away in the 61st minute. Tobar now has six goals in four games this spring.

B-F (5-2, 2-1) closed to within 3-2 in the 77th minute when a poor throw-in from Perry resulted in players out of position. The hosts cashed in the opportunity, but could not find the net in the remaining minutes, allowing Perry to claim the win.

Mike Echeverria earned the win in goal for Perry.

Perry visits Boone tonight for an RRC match before stepping out of the conference for a visit to Indianola April 25.
