A Des Moines man was arrested Friday afternoon in a wooded area near a Jordan Creek apartment complex, where he fled on foot in an effort to elude officers of the West Des Moines Police Department officers
Joseph Robert Sholley, 36, of 2525 County Line Road, #327, Des Moines, was charged with interference with official acts-bodily injury.
According to court records, Sholley “was obstructing law enforcement duties by fleeing from the scene of a forgery” and “running in the opposite direction of law enforcement.”
Records indicate Sholley “was observed by witnesses” while in flight and “was last spotted entering a wooded area in order to conceal himself from law enforcement officials” in the 7500 block of Cascade Avenue in West Des Moines about 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The wooded area lies southeast of the intersection of Mills Civic Parkway and S. 88th Street in West Des Moines.
According to court records, “During the K9 deployment, officers gave” Sholley “commands to come out and make himself known,” but he “continued to move farther away from officers,” who “sustained open cuts and scratches upon their hands and face from shrubs, bushes and trees” in pursuit of Sholley.
Sholley is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance Saturday in Dallas County District Court.
Sholley was convicted of assault with intent to inflict serious injury in August 2019 in Polk County District Court.
