Beaver Creek Wrestling Club hosted the 27th annual Duane Harney Invitational Sunday, with 220 youngsters in grades K-8 participating.

WOODWARD — A total of 220 young wrestlers, ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade, participated Sunday in the 27th annual Duane Harney Invitational.

Hosted by the Beaver Creek Wrestling Club, the youngsters were divided into categories by age, from K-2 to 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. Four matches were wrestled simultaneously on the two Hawk mats, with an near-capacity crowd cheering on the aspiring mat heroes.

Rick Sloss of Woodward, tournament director and head coach, was thankful to the many volunteers who make this annual event a success. He gave special praise to the six young men from Woodward Academy who helpedĀ set up mats, tables and other necessities.

“Those men worked their butts off for Beaver Creek,” Sloss said. “I just can’t thank them enough for their helping make this year’s tournament another huge success for the kids.”
