The crowd kept coming for the entirety of Wednesday's fundraising dinner in the Perry High School Commons, an event held to generate financial support for the family of PHS teacher Darin Steva, who is battling serious health issues.

If the Darin Steva family required further proof of the esteem and concern held for them by the community of Perry they need not have looked further than the enormous crowds filling the Perry High School Commons Wednesday evening.

A fundraising dinner was held to help offset the expenses facing the family of the PHS Industrial Technology teacher, who continues to battle a series of serious health issues.

The teachers and staff from throughout the Perry district aiding, and with donations from Tyson Fresh Meat and others, a dinner with a freewill offering was held from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

PHS principal Dan Marburger said a line had already formed well before 5:30 p.m. in the commons, which can seat approximately 225 at a time. Within an hour the crowd, which spilled into the Brady Library at times, had turned over at least twice, generating at least 600 diners. It was estimated the total crowd would easily near 1,000 by the end of the event.

The Dallas/Madison County chapter of Thrivent Financial helped with the event and pledged to match donations up to $1,500 collected during the dinner.

A seemingly endless selection of desserts was available.
