The Perry Police Department has not yet released a report on the two-vehicle crash Saturday evening in the 2700 block of Iowa Street, but the fist-fighting drivers behind the wheels were both arrested at the scene.
Daniel Ramirez, 41, of 2665 Summer Meadows Dr., Perry, was charged with assault causing bodily injury, first-offense OWI, disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving.
Cori Alberto Alamina, 22, of 728 William St., Perry, was charged with driving while barred, child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The incident began about 4:45 p.m., when officers of the Perry Police Department responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash.
Arriving officers found that a Cadillac Escalade, driven by Ramirez, “was observed to have rolled over, sustained heavy body damage and was observed to come to a full stop on the backyard of a residence,.” according to court records.
A Chrysler Pacifica, driven by Alamina, was parked in a nursing home parking lot.
The drivers “were observed to be in a verbal argument,” according to court records, and witnesses said they saw Ramirez “confront Alamina” after the collision and start a “physical
altercation with Alamina in regards to the motor vehicle accident.”
Officers made contact with Ramirez, who presented with “bloodshot, watery eyes” and “slurred speech,” and he had “a bloodied mouth,” according to court records. He failed standard field sobriety tests and declined to submit to a preliminary breath test.
Ramirez was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $3,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Dec. 18 in Dallas County District Court.
Ramirez was convicted of assault in 2002 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense OWI in 2006 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault in 2012 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault in 2019 in Polk County District Court.
Alamina was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $6,300 cash or surety bond. No date for a preliminary hearing has been set, and no court records have been filed.
Alamina was arrested on a charge of driving while barred in August in Johnston, but the charge was later dismissed in Polk County District Court.
