A Georgia man was arrested early Sunday when he was found allegedly drunk and armed in the vicinity of his wrecked pickup truck.
Andrew Thomas Riggins Jr., 22, of 55 Moore Dr., Stockbridge, Georgia, was charged with public intoxication and possession or carrying of dangerous weapons while under the influence.
The incident began about 4 a.m. Sunday in the 7300 block of Booneville Road in West Des Moines, where an officer of the West Des Moines Police Department found Riggins standing outside the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado that he just crashed.
Riggins “did admit to drinking prior to driving and wrecking his vehicle,” according to court records.
Riggins “did provide his Georgia weapons permit” and said he had “a loaded firearm in the center console of the vehicle,” according to court records. A loaded 9mm Taurus handgun was located in the vehicle.
Riggins registered a preliminary breath test of .175, according to court records.
Riggins was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,300 cash or surety bond prior to his initial appearance Sunday in Dallas County District Court.
