GILBERT — Perry held a short-lived 2-1 lead Tuesday, only to see host Gilbert pull away for a 9-4 win. The non-conference victory lifted the Gilbert softballers to 7-8 overall while Perry fell to 3-11.

The Tigers had a 1-0 lead after three innings, but the Jayettes scored twice in the top of the fourth to move in front.

Three Gilbert runs in the home half of the frame gave the hosts a 4-2 lead, and although Perry scored again in the fifth, five Gilbert tallies pushed the score to 9-3. The Jayettes plated a final run in the sixth but could come no closer in suffering the loss.

Jayna Kenney pitched six innings, yielding nine runs, of which seven Perry errors meant only five Gilbert tallies were earned. Kenney allowed 10 hits and walked one batter while striking out two.

Lydia Olejniczak had a double, a single and three stolen bases, with Adriana Eastman also adding a single and a double. Cassidy Heck, Peyton Tunink and Macy Killmer all had singles for the guests. Tunink drove in a run, with Olejniczak, Eastman, Heck and Kenney scoring for Perry.

Perry visits ADM tonight, hosts Saydel Thursday and will then play both Friday and Saturday in the Roland-Story Invitational.
