The Greater Des Moines Community Band will perform Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. in the Perry Performing Arts Center, 1200 18th St. in Perry. The show is part of the Perry Fine Arts Concert Series.
“When you think of New Orleans, that usually means celebration and jazz music, and that is what the upcoming concert will present,” said Christa Miller, director of the Greater Des Moines Community Band. “Music is a healing force, and we are bringing that force to Perry to help continue the healing process in celebration. You will hear a wide variety of jazz styles presented through the concert band medium that include ‘The Entertainer,’ ‘Moonlight Serenade,’ ‘Lil’ Darlin’’ and ‘Birdland’ as well as many others. We want to pack the house, so please come out for this free concert as part of the Perry Fine Arts Series. Let’s celebrate together. See you then!”
A number of Perry-area musicians play in the Greater Des Moines Community Band, which was founded in 1987 and is composed of musicians from all walks of life and from Des Moines as well as the surrounding communities. They are also a member of the Association Concerts Band.
The Greater Des Moines Community Band performs year-round with an ensemble of 65+ members. Concerts occur on a weekly basis in and around the area at various venues, including retirement communities, the World War II Memorial Remembrance, the National Balloon Festival Parade and the Iowa State Fair

The Perry Fine Arts concerts are free and open to the public. Donations are accepted. The Perry Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.
