Charles Donyah Hodges, 21, of Grimes was arrested Thursday on a Dallas County warrant on an original charge of domestic abuse assault.

A Grimes man, on probation for a 2020 conviction for wife beating in West Des Moines, was arrested Thursday on a Dallas County warrant for probation violation in connection with a December incident in Polk County.

Charles Donyah Hodges, 21, of 1000 S.E. 11th St., Grimes, was charged Dec. 12 with second-offense domestic abuse assault and child endangerment.

According to court records, Hodges allegedly “back-handed his wife of three years” and “head-butted two times and hit a second time” in the December incident.

The victim was holding their 16-month-old daughter during the alleged assault, “creating a substantial risk of her mental, physical or emotional health and safety,” according to court records.

Deputies observed on the adult victim “a scratch above her right eye that appeared to be red and swollen.”

Hodges was on probation following his conviction in September 2020 for first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in connection with a March 2020 incident in West Des Moines in which he “drug” his pregnant wife “down the stairs” and “then threw the victim outside of the house through the front door,” according to court records.

Hodges is held in the Dallas County Jail without bond in advance of a hearing Feb. 3 in Dallas County District Court.
