Grinnell man’s charred remains identified in Jasper County

GRINNELL, Iowa — The man whose body was found burned Sept. 16 in a rural Jasper County ditch was identified Friday as Michael Williams, 44, of Grinnell.

In a statement, the Iowa Division of Crimnal Investigation (DCI) said the investigation into  Williams’ death continues, with law enforcement resources from Jasper, Poweshiek and Marshall counties as well as DCI agents and Iowa State Patrol Troopers.

The Jasper County Communication Center received a report about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday of a fire north of Kellogg in the 8100 block of North 67th Avenue East. Williams’ remains were found after the fire was extinguished.

The homicide investigation broadened Thursday when resources of the Grinnell Police Department and the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s office were brought to bear.
