The streets of downtown Perry were swamped with hundreds of costumed treat seekers and their escorts Friday afternoon, all enjoying the mild autumn sunshine in the annual Spooktacular event.

Sponsored by the Perry Chamber of Commerce, Spooktacular brings businesses and others together along three blocks of the downtown, welcoming Trick or Treaters for candy and small gifts.

Costumes ranged from superheroes to figures from children’s literature and folklore, with a wide range of original ideas and homemade get-ups sprinkled in.

The celebration continued at the Dallas County Hospital’s Safe and Healthy Halloween, themed this year “We Don’t Scare. We Care.”

  1. I am glad that when I was a child, trick or treat night was actually on Halloween in the evening. As a child, going to houses lit up in the night with jack-o-lanterns added to the fun. It didn’t matter if it was cold or snowy. We just dressed a little warmer. Now safety concerns and school nights dictate what day and what time some towns allow or schedule Beggars night. One good thing about the good old days was celebrating holidays, birthdays, etc., on the actual day.

  2. Well I’m glad we’re given enough time to thoroughly enjoy trick or treating rather than being rushed like we already are nowadays. This was a wonderful evening. Beautiful out too!
