Harleigh Harold Allen Jr., son of Harleigh Harold Allen Sr. and Frances E. Brown Allen, was born in Lafayette, Ind., Oct. 5, 1940, and died July 25, 2019, at the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 78 years old.
Harleigh received his education in Albuquerque, N.M.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Harleigh had a successful career as a truck driver, logging more than 5.8 million miles of travel.
Due to his failing health, his daughter, Paula Light, and her husband, Keith, of Perry and son, Patrick Allen, and his wife, Paula, of Des Moines moved him to Perry in April to be near them.
Harleigh made his home at the Rowley Masonic Community before being hospitalized.
He halso ad the opportunity to be near his grandchildren, Connor, Madison, Cayla, Megan, Ethan and Ceanna.
His brother, Richard Allen, lives in Indiana. His sister, Norma Cox, and her husband, Joe, also live in Indiana, and his sister, Catherine Glynn, and her husband, Jack, live in New Mexico.
Harleigh’s parents preceded him in death.
Harleigh will be laid to rest with his mother at the Memorial Gardens in Boone at a later date.
